I am still adding to the FAQ's if you cant find an answer to your question please contact me and I would be happy to help.

Q: Is Sports Massage only for people who do sport?

A: No, Although it is often associated with athletes/sport, the benefits of sports massage extends far beyond just the sporting community. Here at ReBalance Sports Massage a large majority of my clients have issues that are nothing to do with sport but still needing support with muscle tension, limited range of motion, migraine/headaches, carpel tunnel, to name a few all of which can be related to their occupation, hobbies such as gardening, baking, being sedentary and also stress. Sports massage can help reduce muscular tension, enhance flexibility, improve circulation, and promote faster recovery from both physical and mental fatigue. So, regardless of your age or activity level, you can still experience the many benefits that sports massage offers.

Q: What should I wear/bring for my treatment session?

A: For sports massage I recommend comfortable shorts and t-shirt, a bra that can be unlipped at the back. As I will be doing range of motion testing and it is important you are able to move freely without restriction from clothing. During the massage itself depending on the area of the body being treated, you may be required to remove your t shirt but I will provide towels to maintain modesty, keep you warm and comfortable.

Foot Reflexology: Comfortable trousers/skirt that you can roll up to calf comfortably, Shoes, socks will be removed at start of treatment and cleaned prior to treatment.

Hand Reflexology: comfortable clothing to sit in and relax.

Q: What is sports massage?

A: Sports massage is a deep tissue treatment which uses a number of different techniques to manipulate the soft tissue and muscle fibres. These techniques help to warm up the muscles, increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, tightness, and sticky adhesions "knots" by realigning muscle fibres. This also helps to increase joint range of movement and aid in muscular recovery and adaptation. Some of the techniques used may require you to move around during your treatment but don't worry I will be communicating throughout ensuring you understand and are comfortable.

Q: How often should I get a massage?

A: The short answer would be as often as you like. The long answer depends on many factors to include the type of massage you are having, your pain and physical needs and indeed your stress and emotional needs.

A massage every week or two would be ideal but not realistic for everyone. Every 4-6 weeks may be more manageable for you. We also have to remember that regular massages are important to help prevent injury, pain and tension build up in the muscle fibres and for de-stressing/relaxing the mind and body. Ideally we want to be investing in positive health rather than just investing in fighting illness. Ideally a regular massage is just the ticket to keep everything flowing nicely and to optimise overall health and well-being.
